Platelets cannot be manufactured in a factory or lab and come only from willing donors like you.
Platelets cannot be stored for more than 5 days. So, hospitals need quick access to eligible donors each day.

Yes, donating platelets is absolutely safe provided you donate at a hospital, clinic, or blood bank. Typically, an assessment is done, and vitals are checked to ensure you are healthy enough to donate. Your body replaces the donated platelets within hours or days of the donation, provided you are a healthy adult.
You cannot get AIDS, infections or diseases from giving blood as long as a new, sterile needle and supplies are used for drawing blood and discarded after one use. This is why it is important to donate at a medical institution or blood bank.
